Three Surprises from Our Office Move

After nearly 20 years in the same spot, it was time for a fresh start. The way we engage with our clients and each other has changed. We have a heavy reliance on tech, while encouraging in person interaction (we’re in the office a lot).

We knew moving would be a heavy lift. Whether office, industrial or retail, moving the business that so many rely on is a formidable undertaking. As real estate experts, we excel in finding the perfect location and space that works for our clients’ businesses.

But the intricacies of packing and moving weren’t top of mind. It demands meticulous planning, the ability to adapt, and a willingness to confront unexpected hurdles. Which is why we offer project management to help clients with their move. Here are three surprises I learned from our move:

1. The Overwhelming Amount of Paper

In our quest to embrace a digital future, we opted to eliminate paper (almost) entirely from our new space. Lots of scanning and shredding. I’m proud that we reduced our paper load by more than 90%.

2: Everyone is Impacted

The linchpin for an effective move is COMMUNICATION. I thought I was communicating a lot; it wasn’t enough.

Through design and coordinating the move, we touched every facet of the business; the move affects every colleague. Business is still the priority, but the move is disruptive.

Keeping our team well-informed about the timeline and logistics became paramount. This was tough because not all answers are available, and information changed throughout.

3.The Importance of an IT Strategy

A seamless transition for our technology systems was mission critical, and required more effort than I anticipated. Most wouldn’t believe what we invest in information systems, and our new spaces for engaging with clients are unbelievable. That means migrating, upgrading and moving all information systems simultaneously, while not disrupting business. Our partners (and customer) Fit Technologies, created our roadmap and have been working around the clock to make this move.

It’s worth it. The result for our talent, clients, and colleagues will be well worth it. I’m pleased to say we’re on schedule, and as of September 1st, 2023, our new address is:
